how do i change darkstar.example.net to somethine else?

hi,
when i ran pine the other day, i entered my username and pressed tab, then pine automatically appended the @darkstar.example.net. i guess that's my machine name? since it's not a valid url, i came to believe that the machine name can be anything.
now i want to change it to something else. what do i do to make the change complete and thorough? i mean i don't want to change it at one place, but somewhere else in the system it's still darkstar.example.net, then there're conflicts.
thanks.
