If your modem is one of the Speedtouch USB ones made by Alcatel or Thomson let us know because there are drivers for those available and I've got mine going under Slack no probs.

If its not a speedtouch modem let us know what model it is anyway and someone should be able to help.

Once the modems sorted you will probably use "pppd" to connect, I think its available in any standard slack install, type "man pppd" from a terminal to find out more.

Sorry nixjc, I don't know anything about those modems.

The only other USB ADSL modem driver project I know of is here: http://eciadsl.flashtux.org/doc.php?...g=en&view=html

This driver supports heaps of different modems, if your lucky your Beetel will have the same chipset (even though the name is different).

Good luck...

I'm glad that link helped, now you've got a driver it should be possible to get it going under Linux. Unfortunately I don't know how to configure these modems, I would suggest running the setup program again and trying different options, if there are any questions you're not sure about try posting them here. Also, I saw there was quite a bit of documentation at that site, you might be able to find the answer there

As far as the /dev/modem link goes, its the same on my computer (ttyS1).

One other thing, if your modem has some lights on it you can check that they are lighting up when you plug it into the USB port, if they stay dead it may be something to do with hotplug/ hardware detection.
