hard disk not listed by linux

gdisk -l, parted -l, fdisk -l do not show my disk. My disk is brand new and I think in trying to add it to my raid5 array mdadm decided that it would mark it as a failed disk just to screw with my head. Any ideas on how I can recover the disk?

But it's not broken. The hard drive is the same make and model and linux thinks it's the same hard drive that I had before which is broken.

Did you first use your raid control software to remove the failed disk from the array?

No, and all the guides assume that I did that. So, I don't know what to do. I suppose I could recreate the array and then copy from back up...

If the drive is still showing as failed, use the control software to remove it from the array. Then pull the drive, reinsert it and use the control to add a new drive. You should then be able to rebuild the array.
