gdm disables mixer
I usually log in at text mode run level 3 and I'm running Slackware 10.1 with icewm and no problems at all. I want to use runlevel 4 graphical login with GDM and it works ok, but when I try to use any mixer, ( I usally use aumix) I get none. I can still play music cds and mp3s with xmms, but i can not adjust the volume. Even dvds play in mplayer but again no mixer available. I have a sound blaster clone and am using oss sb driver loaded at boot in /rc.d/rc.modules, everything loads fine, but some glitch seems to happen when gdm is loaded. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have tried alsamixer, kmix, aumix and none work. If I go back to runlevel 3 and login at terminal, I type startx and eveything is fine. All mixers work. It seems that some process is happening in GDM that is preventing the mixer from working.
Thanks for the reply

Im not using alsa drivers, because alsa can't seem to detect the sound card. I am using oss sound module sb loaded with the rc.modules. It loads ok and plays fine. mixer works if I do not use GDM, and boot to console and type startx to get graphical.

I use aumix from the menu or kmix. both work fine as long as I do not use the graphical login.

Have you tried using KDM instead of GDM to see if that works?
