I might try slackware one day, but for a day-to-day, nicely set-up, easy-to-manage system you cant go wrong with Ubuntu... try it & you'll see what i mean, its almost "perfect".

Eh .. ok What are you doing posting in this thread? If you've never tried Slakcware you're not exactly a "Slackware fan" are you?

As moderator I'm asking you to please contribute to maintaining a friendly and welcoming atmosphere at LQ for everyone by making constructive and helpful posts. If you feel the urge to slag people off then don't reply at all and move on to another thread.
Thanks in advance.

For unSpawn: I am the OP. This thread was intended for a very specific class of readers of LQ: Slackware fans (users). Why don't I get to complain when someone who is not part of this class adds a comment to the thread (and possibly votes) which makes the whole thread idea .. useless? Even so, I think I've been quite friendly in my reply to tmbowie16.

Arg, the class system!

I am a big fan of Slackware, but I think we sometimes get a bad rep for being eliteists (sp?) who look down on everyone who is not in our "class".

With that said, I do agree that the poll is specific to which other distros that "Slackware fans" are into and will be skewed by responses by non Slackers. In my opinion, I think Slackware users are usually looking to get something else out of Linux then a "windows replacement" thus the results will be skewed by those who are looking for just such a thing.

regards,
...drkstr

Smoothwall
I have three computers on my LAN, my desktop, a laptop & the firewall. Smoothwall has never failed on me. I don't use it the way I use Slack, but I depend on it, so it is my second favorite.
I teach Computers & MSOffice at a local community college, so have to have Windows as well. I run it in QEMU as needed.
Regards,
Bill

I don't know why you'd be surprised as dual booting is probably the most common type of installation among Linux desktop users.

Err... this is the Internet. You or I don't dictate any "class system" here. Wake up and smell the coffee. You shouldn't really be using these poll results for any academic or scientific purpose...

I don't drink coffee. It's bad for health anyway. I have de-addicted myself and drink only tea

And even otherwise, Indian coffee is far, far different from the coffee you guys drink in Europe or in the Americas. It contains a lot of milk and sugar and far less caffeine.

You guys need to stop. I am addicted to Starbuck coffee. The problem is they keep raising the prices. (What are they competing with gas prices now.)

Starbucks is quite nice, but not for everyday, actually it is expensive.
I have never tasted Indian coffee, though I must do so before I die
I always prefer a nice, home made, sweet and warm coffee to start the day
