Question font question-slack-9

I read a few posts about fonts in this forum and they say that the path for the fonts, in slack-9, is '/usr/share/fonts'.

I've looked in that location and in /usr/share, there is no 'fonts' dir or file.

Does anyone know where they are?

Should I make a dir /usr/share/fonts ?

I use KDE. I didn't install gnome, just the libraries and several other development pkg's.

Any tips are greatly appreciated.

Thanks, BC

/usr/X11/lib/fonts

/usr/X11/lib/fonts

I installed Gnome and there is a /usr/share/fonts but I do not use it. I like to keep all my fonts together I used the /usr/X11/lib/fonts/TTF directory for my TTF fonts then you can just run the mkfontdir and mkfontscale in that dir. Restart X and then from a term run xfontsel and check out the family and see how many fonts you have. Anyway that is my 2 cents.

Thanks for the reply, labr. I'm gonna go to my xp-system and try to copy some fonts for the slack9 box.

Thanks again, BC

I burned a cd w/ the fonts from c:\windows\fonts, (xp-pro). I guess I should just copy all of them to: /usr/X11/lib/fonts/TTF dir, then run the cmd's that you suggested, labr, correct?

The fonts from windows are TTF's right?

After all is done, I just choose what font I'd like to try out from the font menu??

Thanks, BC

All the TTFonts are installed and lookin' good(grin).

All I had to do was copy them in the dir /usr/X11/lib/fonts/TTF and reboot, then I had access to all the TTF's that were copied there.

Thanks for the help, BC
