Firefox upgrated to 3.5 doesn't respond

Hello!
I'm using Slackware 12.2 and it was a firefox 3.0.4 by default.
I download fresh 3.5 version from mozilla.com and unpacked it to /usr/lib. After that I've made a correct symlinks in /usr/bin and /usr/lib.
Then I've launched firefox. It starts and works pretty fine, but when I click on any element of menubar(like "File" or "Tools") it stops to respond. Also it occurs on right click, Alt+F, Alt+E and so on.
I thought about old extension's versions and upgrade them all, but problem remained.
I tried to launch it under root and result is same.
Also, there is nothing in terminal output even on "firefox 2>&1".
Creating new profile was useless.
Other elements such as address bar, search bar, buttons work correct.

You can download the slackware-package of firefox-3.5 from slackware current. But be sure to upgrade pkgtool and install (edit: the xz-package which uses the lzma algorithm) lzma first, because the slackware-current-file comes als txz.

Very easy way to upgrade to 3.5

I have done this on 4 different computers with no problems at all. I am using slackware 12.2 on all computers.
Go to Help in the firefox browser, click and open, go down to check for updates, click on it, if you are running 3.11 or below it will first update to 3.12 let it update, then do the same thing again it will update you to firefox 3.5.1 and you have it.
Hope this helps

Get rid of it and install the latest Slackware Firefox (3.0.12) package. Then unpack your FF 3.5.2 (the latest) in /opt en then make the symlinks.
Does that work?

For the sake of consistency, lzma is in the a/xz package.

@sahko: thanks for your remark, I didn't think about the difference between the algorithm and the programm. So my post was incorrect.

Thanks for replies. It is amazing to feel support of community.
About problem:
- I've upgraded from 3.0.4 to 3.5.2 through 3.0.12 and problem remains
- I've upgraded pkgtool and install 3.5.2 from slack repo, but still remains

I haven't tried to make like adriv said, because don't think it will help (what difference between /opt and /usr/lib directory?)

Also I've removed all firefox from system and install it again through installpkg. Still no result...
(Start to think about posting bug in bugzilla)

Since yesterday I experienced the same problem with firefox for short times with slackware64-current. I'm running fluxbox and thought the problem was a fluxbox issue. Which WM are you using?

I use fluxbox too. I also have xfce and can run under it. But!

I've just had a surprising thing. I've launched music player in browser. After that i've accidentally clicked a right mouse button and music continues to play but browser doesn't respond. It's seemed strange to me and I've started to wait.
And after about 3 minutes it waked up and now works at 100%. o_O
After relaunching situation has repeated. Right click->3 minutes of waiting->normal work.
It's real strange

I noticed that some things in fluxbox take a long time to happen. It gets stuck in various situations. Maybe this is the problem. I've never noticed this with other WMs.

personally, i dont recomend use the txz files in slack 12.2
but, if you want to upgrade firefox to 3.5, do the upgrade as root, from tool -> Check for updates
works great for me, in slack12.2 with xfce

Well, I don't like messing with directories where you should stay away from. So /opt is a better choise IMHO, that's the dir. where you put stuff that you "installed" yourself. Keeps the system a bit cleaner.

If it worked before, it's obvious that you messed something up.
Did you remove all symlinks?
