Firefox 52.0.2 constantly locking up

Since upgrading firefox with slackpkg lately, the browser keeps locking up randomly. The whole window freezes. When it happens, one CPU core goes to 100% It can happen at any time, regardless of whether a page is bloated with javascript/flash etc. Even on websites such as LQ the browser can sometimes lock up. The only way out of it is to "killall", has anyone else been having these issues?

The attached image is my conky showing the CPU, whilst firefox locked on the http://duckduckgo.com website..

I would start with disabling/removing the browser's extensions/plugins one by one to see if one of those is causing your issue (flash plugin for instance).

My firefox 52 too was getting slow.

I backed up the add-on session manager's session and performed a

Code:
firefox --safe-mode
and I clicked on the refresh button.

Its behaving better now and less cpu except when youtube is open.

I have another persisting problem and I do not if this is the right place to tell. There is a segmentation fault since firefox 48 when I try to upload images to either facebook or gdrive.
But on g-drive it does not crash when I use the drag and drop feature from dolphin to g-drive.

PS:I'm still using Slackware 14.1.

I had noticed that my browser was making my system go crazy when the MEGA extension was updating. I also had to killall it. It happened 2 days in a row, first time it updated to 3.8.11 the next day it updated to 3.8.12. I went so far as to contact MEGA about it but have not heard back from them yet.

Ok, i've run firefox in safemode, and performed a refresh as suggested. Reinstalled all of the addons i was using.
It seems noticeably faster and more responsive all of a sudden. However i guess i'll have to wait a while to see if this starts locking up again.

I don't think i've refreshed my ~/mozilla/firefox profile since it was still on v30 or so. Maybe some old settings were causing sluggish behaviour.

Previously, firefox would hang/lockup every 15 minutes or so. The past two days i haven't experienced this problem anymore... so i would assume refreshing the firefox profile and reinstalling any addons is a solution. I guess this is solved. Thanks everyone.
