Cool fat32 hard drive cant read as user

Hello all,
I just installed slack and so far I love it thanks for all the help/
I am fairly new to linux in general and I dont understand what might be trivial tasks,
My problem is this I have a fat partition that I can see as a everyday user but I cant open the folder to acess the files in it/
I use a fat 32 because i have all my media file on it, so when I went to linux I needed a way to read them,
My question is how can I get a regular user to have full access to this folder,
I am assuming that I have to go into su mode and do something like rxw to /slackusr or something to that effect?
any help would be great!
thanks again for helping me get along in linux

You need to edit your /etc/fstab file and have something like the following line:

/dev/hda2 /mnt/fat32 vfat defaults,users,umask=000 0 2

(above assumes your fat32 partition is at /dev/hda2). The umask=000 option allows all users access to your fat32 partition.

Its a good idea to utilize the search feature of this site before asking your question. In this case, this question has been asked many times before and you would have found the answer by simply searching and reading one of the other threads.
