Failed to open /dev/video0

In Slackware 14.0, when I try to mplayer /dev/video0, I get:

Code:
MPlayer 1.1-4.7.2 (C) 2000-2012 MPlayer Team

Playing /dev/video0.
File not found: '/dev/video0'
Failed to open /dev/video0.

Exiting... (End of file)
When I try anything v4l2-ctl or ivtv-ctl or ivtv-tune or whatever, it says that it "Failed to open /dev/video0". ls in fact says that /dev/video<whatever> exists:
Code:
crw-rw---- 1 root video 81, 0 Mar 18 21:52 /dev/video0
crw-rw---- 1 root video 81, 5 Mar 18 21:52 /dev/video1
crw-rw---- 1 root video 81, 3 Mar 18 21:52 /dev/video24
crw-rw---- 1 root video 81, 8 Mar 18 21:52 /dev/video25
crw-rw---- 1 root video 81, 1 Mar 18 21:52 /dev/video32
crw-rw---- 1 root video 81, 6 Mar 18 21:52 /dev/video33
The tuner card is a WinTV-PVR-500. It worked fine under Arch Linux i686. How do I fix this?
