Unhappy Evolution ----> gnomeConf.sh

has anyone had anyproblems installing Evolution from source on Slackware with Dropline. I keep getting the gnomeConf.sh error and cannot seem to resolve it. I have installed 90% of the Devel packages from Slackware current and I still cannot compile.... I have downloaded the 1.3.1 package from linuxpackages.net, but it is an unstable version. Does anyone have a slackware tgz of 1.2.X? Also, is there a way to set the volume and keep it there all the time, whenever I log in I have to turn up the volume each time, minor annoyance I know. Thanks.

Talking Here it is...

You can find the 1.2.4 tarball here . I don't know if it will work, I couldn't get it to configure, but maybe you can...

Ciao,

Edit: This is source, not a pkg

Unhappy Actually...

Actually, I think I am getting the same error as you...
Look at my code output:

Code:
checking for gnomeConf.sh file in /usr/local/lib... not found
configure: error: Could not find the gnomeConf.sh file that is generated by gnome-libs install
Is that what you are getting w/ 1.3.1?

Yep, same thing when compiling from source. Weird. I went ahead and installed the unstable tgz package from linuxpackages.net for 1.3.1, although I am uncomfortable using unstable versions of stuff, I need the contact managament features and calendar integration of evolution. So, I'll keep working on the compile problem. Let me know if you find anything, especially a slackware package for a stable version of Evolution.

You might want to review the end of this thread. Neenee posted a list of libs for Slack 9.1. I think Neenee had installed Evolution on a dropline Gnome system.

Perhaps it will help your compile problem as well.

This FAQ on dropline might answer your question. It states:
"...anything that won't compile because of "gnome-config" errors require GNOME 1.4...."

Instructions on getting them to work are also answered.

If Evolution requires Gnome 1.4, you should try to install the correct libraries from Slackware 8.1. I have had the same problem while trying to compile other applications and solved it by installing the following:

from /slackware-8.1/slackware/l/

gtk+-1.2.10-i386-2.tgz
lib*.tgz

from /slackware-8.1/slackware/gnome/
gnome-libs-1.4.1.7-i386-1.tgz
gtkhtml-1.0.2-i386-1.tgz

There may be more, but you get my drift: each time the compilation complains about a missing lib, just look for it within the Slackware 8.1 tree structure, and install it as root.

Please note that this will not create any problem for your Slackware 9.0 machine, since different versions of the same library can co-exist peacefully on your machine...

Hope this helps!
