Errors compiling XFCE 4.4 on Slack 10.2 with 2.6.20

Hi all,

I have a Dell Latitude D610 which I'm trying to install XFCE 4.4 on. I know I can install the pre-built XFCE 4.2 that comes with the 10.2 distro, but I fancied the newer version.

I've configured X with the basic TWM window manager and it runs fine. I've downloaded the xfce4-4.4.0-installer.run file and made it executable. When I run it inside X, it loads and tells me I've satisfied all the mandatory dependencies. But the installation fails at 100% with the following error:

Code:
## Updating the desktop database
update-desktop-database /usr/local/share/applications
./control.sh: line 381: update-desktop-database: command not found
I've no idea what I'm doing wrong / missing.

Could someone shed some light?

Mark.

update-desktop-datbase is a Gnome script for adding new .desktop files to the database. You should eb abe to safely ignore the error if the installation is really finishing alright -that's probabyl the last thing it does before quitting. If nothing else, I'd just create a 'fake' update-desktop-datbase program with a small script like:
#!/bin/bash
true
exit 0

Name that update-desktop-datbase and put it in /usr/local/bin, run your installer and then remove the fake program.

That will certainly work (although it's an ugly hack IMHO - sorry gnashley ;-)), but I'd suggest getting the desktop-file-utils (and the hicolor-icon-theme) sources from freedesktop.org and compiling/installing them on the system. Both are *really* easy compiles, and there are even SlackBuild scripts available for both in the 11.0/source/ directory...

Of course it's an ugly hack -maybe he needs the icons and stuff anyway. But maybe not. All that command does is update the gnome menus anyway.
