Error during install

Hi,

Some time ago I installed Linux Mint 16 on a spare laptop. Being a newbee in Linux I read posts and try to learn from that. Looking for information on how to install programmes onto a Linux machine I ran into a post from Ztcorcat: Install pysolfc.tar.gz (02-23-2015). It was very informative especially post 23 where ruario explains step by step how to install pysolfc. I decided to follow his instructions.

I think evrything went well until the step where I had to run the Slackbuild while being in the right directory:

leolinuxcomputer ~ # pwd
/root
leolinuxcomputer ~ # cd /tmp/pysolfc
leolinuxcomputer pysolfc #

Issuing the Slackbuild command(./pysolfc.SlackBuild) resulted in a very long list ending in an error:

.............
copying data/images/misc/pysol02.png -> /tmp/SBo/package-pysolfc/usr/local/share/icons
creating /tmp/SBo/package-pysolfc/usr/local/share/locale
creating /tmp/SBo/package-pysolfc/usr/local/share/locale/ru
creating /tmp/SBo/package-pysolfc/usr/local/share/locale/ru/LC_MESSAGES
copying locale/ru/LC_MESSAGES/pysol.mo -> /tmp/SBo/package-pysolfc/usr/local/share/locale/ru/LC_MESSAGES
creating /tmp/SBo/package-pysolfc/usr/local/share/locale/ru_RU
creating /tmp/SBo/package-pysolfc/usr/local/share/locale/ru_RU/LC_MESSAGES
copying locale/ru_RU/LC_MESSAGES/pysol.mo -> /tmp/SBo/package-pysolfc/usr/local/share/locale/ru_RU/LC_MESSAGES
copying data/pysolfc.glade -> /tmp/SBo/package-pysolfc/usr/local/share/PySolFC
creating /tmp/SBo/package-pysolfc/usr/local/share/applications
copying data/pysol.desktop -> /tmp/SBo/package-pysolfc/usr/local/share/applications
running install_egg_info
Writing /tmp/SBo/package-pysolfc/usr/local/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/PySolFC-2.0.egg-info
./pysolfc.SlackBuild: 83: ./pysolfc.SlackBuild: /sbin/makepkg: not found

In cd /tmp I can see: pysolfc.tar.gz, which is where it should be... I think.

Any suggestions what went wrong?

KR, Leo

hi lpvmc, welcome to LinuxQuestions.

the SlackBuilds scripts are meant to be run from a Slackware operating system as they make certain assumptions on the software installed on your host: the error you got is because your o.s. doesn't have pkgtools installed.

I'm not a Mint user but looking here I can assume pysolfc should be available in Mint's repositories: if you want to install a software on your distribution you better check first if it's available in its own repos...

as this is a forum dedicated to Slackware, if you need help specific to Linux Mint, like in your case, you are better off asking in the dedicated forum.

You are missing 'makepkg'. It's in the pkgtools package.

I can attest that PysolFC is in the Mint repos. In fact, I played a couple of games of Double Canfield today.

I have it installed on my Mint box.
