editting .conf files don't take effect


anyone experience this kind of problem with slack 10.1 it kinda annoying

1st.
i edited lilo.conf i added FreeBSD 5.4 at first FreeBSD appear at Lilo but the next boot up it already didn't appear

2nd
i edited my modules.conf i add my network device which is D-Link 530TX+ and then i add the sound card usual at first it work but when i end my session it already didn't work again

1) Run /sbin/lilo as root after editing lilo.conf

2) Hotplug should fix modules at boot time, if not, add the modules at the bottom in /etc/rc.d/rc.modules

For example add:

/sbin/modprobe pcspkr

If you want the pcspkr module to load

First, you forgot to run lilo after you edited the config file.

Second, what, exactly, is the problem? You haven't given us anything to go on! Does the module appear to be unloading itself, do you need to run "alsamixer," what are the symptoms? And what do your problems with your soundcard have to do with your NIC? Do you think loading your NIC affected your soundcard? We need more details!

Isn't the command "insmod" now?

about the sound card and NIC
I just commented out Via882 for my soundcard and 8139too for my NIC in the rc.modules

about the lilo
like objorkum said i typed "lilo" in konsole so that the saved lilo.conf work
