Just a shot in the dark on this one - but are you positive that the DVD drive is hdd? That would make it the slave drive (i.e. attached to the middle connector, not the end) on the second ide controller. Funky things can happen if you have the master/slave configuration incorrect. Something out of the ordinary, like putting the drive on the end of the IDE cable but setting the jumper to 'slave' can cause issues similar to the one you are having. Can you list your drive setup for us? I have a similar setup to you, and this is how my fstab reads:
the kernel boot up with parameter hdc=ide-scsi
the dvd drive is in /dev/sr0 with link to /dev/dvd
I use mplayer, for 4:3 region 2 DVD I would use this command:
#!/bin/sh
mplayer -vop expand=-50:-30,crop=700:560,kerndeint -ao alsa -benchmark $2 $3 $4 $5 $6 $7 $8 $9 dvd://$1
one of my dvd is imported and encrypted, libdvdcss works but it play slow on my PC.
trying new kernel thanks for everyone help will report back when done dl'ing and compiling new kernel....
Its not a drive issue - drive map correctly and hdd IS the dvd drive
Its not mplayer, xine, ogle, and kaboodle all correctly configured won't play either
Hello guys just wanted to thank you all again and to tell you the resolution of the problem....
