defragmentation and otha stuff

ok, finally i post here WOOT!

one of these days i plan to install slackware 8.1 ( i planned to install it 2 months ago, but i killed the computer i was gonna install it on)

ok, maybe there is a thread on this, but i dont got the time or energy right now (too tired, feel sick, etc) to search for it, sorry.and i gotta just jump in a start posting some time right?

i was wondering if (hard drives running) slackware get fragmented easily. or at all?
also, is slackware any good at defragmenting hard drives.

also, if i install slackware, and mess up on da installation, is it possible for someone dat knows what they are doing, to fix my mess?

and last question. winb1owz XP pisses me off, so im getting rid of it (1 of da main reasons y i am/want to switch to slackware)
And i want to run Slackware 8.1 and winb1owz 2k advanced server together. because i have neither on my hard drive at this time, i was wondering if it is better to install 1 of them before da otha.

sorry if that didnt make sence, im tired as hell.

In Linux, defragmentation is not a problem. I've got a mchine running 1.5year and its /home is defragmented in 6%, other partitions 1-2%.
You can install Slack and 2K together. Windows first.

Linux filesystems dont need defragmenteting, unless you are so crazy to install linux on a crappy vfat FS, the you're in trouble, otherwise fragmentation is a windows invention.
2) Install windows first, then slack, install lilo to mbr and it will give you a choice to boot linux or windows (DOS)

Just a suggestion. Make only one partition on your first install and use it for a few weeks. Check the sizes of your respective directories and you'll have a good idea of the right partitioning scheme for you. The swap size formula (2/1) refers to older PCs with 64m or less. Unlike Windows,Linux goes to the memory first before using swap. I have 256m of ram and 200m of swap with no problems. The only reason I've found for partitioning is the fact that size of /var can change rapidly under certain conditions. Especially running a server.
Two easy partitioning methods are Partition Magic or the first disk of a Mandrake distro. Since one of the benefits of multiple partition scheme is that you can reinstall and still keep your /home with all your customized settings, simply back it up on one of your FAT32 partitions.

Hope this makes a little sense. (Early---No Coffee)

OOOPS!! Wrong thread (Note to self: WAKE UP!!)
