daemon

I'm sure these are stupid questions, but since I'm a stupid.
1. How do I disable/enable startup daemons?
2. Which daemon should I run? (desktop)
3. If I want to start particular daemon temporarily, how do I do that from shell?
thanks

1. change the files in /etc/rc.d/rc?.d where ? is your startup level, this maybe "5" if you startup in the gui.

2. dont understand, daemons just start when u boot the computer.
if you're talking about how to start stuff when you login to the gui, then edit your .xinitrc or .xsession file in your home directory.

3. /etc/rc.d/init.d/xxx start
where xxx is the name of the daemon
"/etc/rc.d/init.d/xxx stop" will stop the daemon
