The bootdisks in the current tree don't seem to work. I've tried writing them with several computers, and tried booting with them on several computers, and each time i just get "Boot failed" when it tries to access the disk.
I tried both bare.i and scsi.s. I wrote the disk images using rawwritewin on a Windows 2000 box. I also tried ntrw.exe (from NetBSD) to write the image.
I'm going to try dd on my linux box at work on monday, but I'd like to know why writing from windows seems to be broken.
Not exactly sure...I had a couple bad floppies the first 2 times i tried...eventually it wrote and i could boot from it..?
did you use the same floppy both times? maybe try a different one..other than that i have no clue why it wouldn't werk, never heard of rawwritewin..it's the same as rawrite?

I've definitely tried various different floppies, all brand new. None of them worked. I don't know. I guess i'll just try a dd on a linux box and see if it makes a difference.
Have you tried disks from slack 8.0 instead of slack current? That might be the problem. Also the disk image you have downloaded might be corrupted, where did you get it?
the install iso itself i was having trouble with..i downloaded it three times from 3 different US ftp sites..windows wouldnt even recognize the disk, and when it did i got errors when i was installing X fonts..the fourth time i downloaded from some ftp site in canada, everything went perfect...that's also where i got the disk images..i should recommend you check your install cd as well just to make sure it's browesable from windows...if you got the images from a US ftp site...try a canadian one...(don't ask what the difference there is cuz i don't know, but it proved the difference between success and failure in my case)
hope ya get it..slack is quite fun, dont give up
