Creative SB Live! 5.1 Digital + Slackware 9.1 = Problems, Help, pls!

Hi,

First of all, I'm newbie in Linux
Using SoundBlaster Live! 5.1 Digital and Creative Inspire 5300 speakers.
Recently installed Slackware 9.1 (full instaltion), since that fighting frustration when i here these dirty noises from speakers every time linux loads sound card drivers. With alsamixer muted the "SB Live Analog/Digital Output Jack", did alsactl store but still the noise disapears only at the end of booting. Besides, then trying, for example, to play an mp3 with mpg321 the sound is noisy and cracky too. Though, in KDE everytihing works fine - the suond quolity is outstanding.
Here is my cat /proc/interrupts
CPU0
0: 150265 XT-PIC timer
1: 3226 XT-PIC keyboard
2: 0 XT-PIC cascade
8: 1 XT-PIC rtc
10: 111450 XT-PIC radeon@PCI:1:0:0
11: 14757 XT-PIC eth0, EMU10K1, usb-uhci
12: 54797 XT-PIC PS/2 Mouse
14: 10189 XT-PIC ide0
15: 6 XT-PIC ide1
NMI: 0
ERR: 0

Would apretiate any ideas/suggestions/explanations.

hi,
you will most likely have to recompile the kernel...
I have a Sounblaster Live 4.1 ...so it's probably gonna work with 5.1
to be sure compile in the following 4 (compiling as modules caused problems @ my box) under Sound:
Creative SBLive! (EMU10K1)
Creative SBLive! MIDI
Ensoniq AudioPCI (ES1370)
Creative Ensoniq AudioPCI 97 (ES1371)

(I believe all SB Live models are Ensoniq stuff, try lspci (as root) to see it.)

regards

Ya, don't use the OSS or ALSA drivers! Goto Sourceforge site and get the emu10k1 driver and emu-tools. this driver was written specifically for SB live 5.1 cards and SB audigy. there will be a script to edit,( emu10k1.conf ) the script will install itself to /usr/local/etc

I have the exact same setup but I use Boston Acoustics 735 speakers. and it sounds GREAT!!
I have also used this driver on a SB live(ware) card that Gateway had put into one of my boxes. No probs with it either........
