Connecting on 56k

What's the best way to connect on a 3Com modem on Slackware 9.x? I've been using broadband for a while, but now have to use 56k. The last time I used it, modem drivers were not the readily available. The last message I can find on here about it, was posted in 2002.

Go to Linmodems.org and get the scanModem tool. It'll scan your system and tell you what driver (if any) will get your modem working.

You can also get good info at http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/

For 3COM/US Robotics Inc. winmodems, drivers were NOT available as of May, 2001.

That's crazy that this still has not been resolved.

Maybe it is due to must have legal brevet to exploit speed > 9600 bauds for winmodems and need to decrypt the secret message to make a driver for it.
