configurating the asus p4p800's onboard network card in slackware 10.0
hi fellas!
my problem is exactly the one i put there on subject... i don't know how to config my lan card (3com gigabit lom 3c940 on MB asus p4p800) to work on slackware 10.0... i also don't know how to config the sound card, but the most urgent part is the network...
i am a complete newbie on GNU/Linux so i beg for your comprehension! feel free to recommend some tutorials and stuff for me to read in order to do everything i must do to have the system working properly...
I was thinking it was maybe close to my P4P800-E Deluxe But I guessed wrong.
Looking at the HCL for it p4p800 HCL There really isnt much info for it from there.
All the drivers you'll need can be found at the ASUS support site: http://www.asus.com/support/download...00&Type=Latest
It looks like you'll need to download the driver for the sound and 3com. If you have any issues compiling them just ask and you'll get help.
The driver provided by Asus for the network controller didn't work properly. Maybe they have a newer driver now, I didn't check recently.
But the sk98lin driver that comes with the kernel works very well.
Just put "/sbin/modprobe sk98lin" in your rc.modules file which is in /etc/rc.d
Then you can configure your networking according to your needs (ie. dhcp or static ip).
For the sound, the driver from Asus website works fine.
If you have any more questions just ask.
thanks for the help, the sk98lin worked perfectly here! now my network is ok, but i had problems in my sound card configuration... i downloaded the driver from the asus website, unzipped it, ./configure (d) and when i tried to make it, it didn't make and screwed everything here! before trying to install the driver, i could watch a dvd but without sound, now the program crashes when i try to open it... and in the volume control, it says that no devices/mixers were found! the cd player does not crash, but plays the cd with no sound ¬¬
what should i do? (please, don't tell me to watch dvd on windows!)
hm... i'll try it soon (i screwed up all my linux trying to install the sound, now it's time to reinstall everything fortunately i installed only a few things so i decided to take the risk), but what's the name of the ad1985's driver? i couldn't find it in the rc.modules or anywhere...
update: i reinstalled linux and the driver was already there, then i ran alsaconfig and the sound is working!
