I was curious about playing with PCI pass-through with VirtualBox. My Asus Z170-K motherboard and i5-6400 CPU supports this, although a little digging was required to find various BIOS/EFI options.
That all said, according to this
informative post, my understanding is pass-through still won't work in Slackware without recompiling the kernel.
I am using 14.2 64-bit. I looked at the generic kernel config:
# CONFIG_VFIO_PCI_VGA is not set
I looked at the config in Current and found the same.
I have to add
intel_iommu=on to the boot loader options.
My understanding is despite adding that boot option, the kernel still needs to be recompiled.
Pat, any chance we could see this enabled in 14.2 and Current as defaults?
(Yes, I can compile a kernel.)
Unless there are technical reasons, would seem nice to have this built-in.
Thanks.
