yes, after researching a bit the mailing lists, it seems that there have been some attempts but unsuccessfully until today.
or, after some time the people have simply forgotten, distributions do what ever they do, create workarounds if required, disable features, or simply don't realize the problem, and nothing changes.

This isn't exactly on topic (which is solved anyway), but your post and some other recent ones about sbbdep convinced me to try it out. Thank you! It's a really great tool. I was able to use it to trim down my KDE installation to just the applications I want. That saved me a bunch of clutter in my application menu and a bit of hard disk space too.

I just want to say also that I don't recommend doing this, but I just wanted to see if it would work. With sbbdep and some careful accounting, it wasn't too difficult.
