cd-rom won't work in kscd

Slacker newbie here (converting from RedHat)

Just installed Slack 9.1. Mostly a good experience. Got a problem though.

My cd-rom won't work. That is, it worked fine installing from the cd, but now that I'm up, kscd will not play cd's. I get this error:

kdecore (KAction): WARNING: KAction: : plugAccel( ): call to deprecated action.

I looked in dmesg and saw this:

kmod: failed to exec /sbin/modprobe -s -k scsi_hostadapter, errno = 2

Here's another clue:
root@blueridge:~# cdrecord -scanbus
Cdrecord 2.00.3 (i686-pc-linux-gnu) Copyright (C) 1995-2002 Jörg Schilling
cdrecord: No such file or directory. Cannot open '/dev/pg*'. Cannot open SCSI driver.
cdrecord: For possible targets try 'cdrecord -scanbus'. Make sure you are root.
cdrecord: For possible transport specifiers try 'cdrecord dev=help'.

I can mount a data cd and see the contents in /mnt/cdrom. I'm confused....

I am trying to figure out this problem, but in the meantime, if anyone wants to offer advice, I will not turn it down.

I don't think those two are related :)

cdrecord wants you to use the ide-scsi emulation.

What does your /etc/lilo.conf look like?

As for kscd ... it might be a permission
problem with eithe access to the cdrom
device for users, or to the mixer.

Cheers,
Tink

Ok, I found a fix (thanks to a gentle shove in the right direction from Tinkster). Thought I would share.

All it took was a chmod 755 /dev/hdc .
/dev/hdc originally was -rw-rw----

Now can play my Barry Manilow Greatest Hits while I surf.

just kidding.
