Cant see X

Hello everyone,
I just installed Slackware 9.1 for the 1st time today, and unlike I was told it was relatively easy to install. The only problem I had was with Lilo, but I fixed that by setting it up in expert mode (which I felt wasn’t that difficult).

Now I want to use X but so far I have been unable to get it to work. After typing “startx” it starts to boot and then my monitor gives me a message like:

Out of Range
64k 255hz

I have tried to configuring xf86config but I am a newbie and have vary little knowledge of this. I would try installing nvidia driver, but I cant download them tell I get into X and I don’t have a floppy drive on that box.

Thanks for any help!

1) What type of monitor do you have?
2) You can use lynx -- a text based web broweser, to download the nvidia drivers, it works for me.

try changing your refresh rates in XF86Config.
also try :
XFree86 -configure then copy the new xf86config to /etc/X11/.
im using nvidia too.. after the fresh install i just used vesa then downloaded the nvidia drivers later.

hehe vesa... well nvidia is much better i guess..
try changing your refresh rates.. this usually works with other monitors try it:
HorizSync 30.0 - 70.0
VertRefresh 50.0 - 90.0
