Cant get arpwatch to install


I have installed Slack 11 and am trying to get arpwatch to install. right out of the gate when i do a ./configure I get the following error

checking for C compiler default output file name... configure: error: C compiler cannot create executables

Have you installed a C compiler?

yes i have gcc-4.1.2-i486-1

You probably shouldn't be using the GCC package from Slackware -current on Slackware 11. Have you tried to compile any other programs?
