I would be interested in trying the SSH options HostkeyAlgorithms and PubkeyAcceptedKeyTypes that you mentioned, but I'm not familiar with them. Would these go in ssh_config or sshd_config?
The options could go in those files or the user's ~/.ssh/config. The options are useful to provide backwards compatibility with devices that have old versions of SSH and the old versions can't be updated because the device no longer is supported. Several options in newer versions of SSH are deprecated. The newer version need the options to create an SSH connection with the older versions.

Any suggestions on how to proceed?
I don't use TigerVNC and can't help much there.

I was finally able to get x11vnc to work, albeit not as easily as before. Between the various suggestions and what I found on the web, what I ended up doing is

1) on my server, setting up x11vnc to start automatically when I log in using the command
Code:
x11vnc -localhost -nopw -noxdamage -forever
2) on my client, log into my account using
Code:
ssh -Y -L 5900:localhost:5900
3) on my client, start up tigervnc and connect to localhost

There are still some minor issues to clean up, but I've reestablished connectivity. I'll mark this thread as solved. Thanks again for all of the help!
