Cannot open /dev/mouse?

After a fresh install, I get the error Cannot open device: /dev/mouse, generated by gpm. startx fails as well: No CorePointer, Missing CorePointer.

I am using a Logitech Wireless USB mouse. My xorg.conf is correct I am pretty sure. I think it is a USB related proble.

btw after I run modprobe usbmouse, startx will start up ok, but I have no control of the cursor on the screen.

lsusb returns nothing but 1 empty usb port and will not recognize the other 5 I have installed.

So, assuming that it is USB related and not X related (unless USB is X) anything I can do to install/refresh my usb drivers?

(oh yeah, hotplug doesnt pick up anything either. not even my usb keyboard)

Use the 2.6.x kernel. (huge26.s or test26.s ... and remember to install the kernel modules)
