"Cannot find -ldb"?

I'm attempting to compile Postfix, and every time I do, I hit that error message ("Cannot find -ldb"). Can anybody shed some light on this, and what the proper step(s) is/are to resolve the matter so Postfix can find it during compilation?

I installed what I thought was the Berkeley DB package -- db4-4.2.52-i486-2.tgz off the L series. Did I make a mistake?
