cannot find ALIASES to change eth0 to eth1

I have slackware 12 and I cannot find the aliases file/s to change the name of the eth1 to eth0 and vice versa.

It should be in /etc/modprobe.conf ... but in this file there is:

# /etc/modprobe.conf (old location for Linux 2.6+ config)
#
# The use of this config file is deprecated.
# Instead, create files in the /etc/modprobe.d/ directory
# containing modprobe options.
#
# For more information, see "man modprobe.conf".

and in /etc/modprobe.d/ there is a link to the previous modprobe.conf .

What to do then? Where can I change this alias?

Add it to the modprobe.conf file the way you need it. If both nics use different modules then you can give it a try. If both are the same then no of no way to change unless they are seperate pci nic cards. If so you can swap them around so they take different IRQs on boot.
