No offense taken, I felt like that myself after linking that video framerate booster thing.
I will try to be as helpful as troll as I can be by reporting any findings about this problem, in case someone else tries trolling the same way.

Update:
I pulled the system up to Jun 11 levels and it still works, at least with the fully clean version. I did not update slackpkg to 15, nor grub to 2.06 (or 8, forgot) instead of the 2.00 from 14.2

my realtek driver sources are out of date, though, so I'm grabbing the latest version which hopefully will compile.

Yes, and so far I have no idea what caused it, but whatever it was, it cost me two days, some now wonky settings, liked fonts and mouse feel weird as well as the multilib install, but that can be repaired.
Going to mark it as solved and continue experimentation.
I haven't done a grub mkconfig with the new grub, for example, yet, booting into windows manually, via the boot menu.

There, Igator, although showing some troll-like symptoms, nevertheless, on this occasion, Nang Dabbit has passed the test: no troll ever marks a thread as solved

Nang, mixing dabbits and computers can lead to unnecessary convolutions
