MATE 1.14 has been released and this new release is a little bit different compared to previous release since some of the components are now being ported to GTK+3 only and more will follow in the next 1.16 release in the future.
My current plan is to provide MATE 1.12 for next Slackware 14.2 since it's considered stable and mature. MATE 1.12 also support GTK+3 build, but i still see some major issues unresolved so it's best not to use it and stick with GTK+2 build only. Once MATE 1.12 is released for Slackware 14.2, i can focus on providing MATE 1.14 for Slackware 14.2.
Meanwhile, users who can't wait to try the new MATE 1.14, i have prepared an experimental branch called
1.14 in github in which you can build it from source. For 1.14, i have two options: a mix build between GTK+2 and GTK+3 or fully migrate to GTK+3. For now, this new branch will make a mix build between GTK+2 and GTK+3. Packages that uses GTK+3 are mozo, mate-system-monitor, mate-session-manager, mate-polkit, and mate-notification-daemon. The rest are still based on GTK+2.
Users who do not want to spend time building all the sources can use a precompiled binary which i have uploaded into testing directory in
msb repository (only x86_64 for now). The binaries are compiled against latest current (per April 6 2016).
NOTE:
- Help files are now provided, but still not usable unless you have yelp (which requires webkit2gtk available from SBo). It's very time consuming to build so i do not provide a binary package for it.
- By default, audacious will be used as default file manager. Please change it to Caja in System > Preferences > Personal > Preferred Applications.
- New package: libwnck3
- Removed packages:
