building a wireless access point: search of hardware

Hello.

I'm going to build an access point with slackware-current(kernel 2.6.24.5). Having surfed across the net in search of my info, came to a conclusion that that's not that easy.

I am frozen in the first point. In search of supported hardware to operate in 'Master' mode, so it could be used to be a access point. Actually have no idea what to choose, it seems that there are no such devices

has anyone got an experience in this area?

p.s. i do not want to use ndiswrapper at all

IIRC you can do that with atheros based wifi card and madwifi which can create an access point interface:

http://madwifi.org/wiki/UserDocs/AccessPointInterface

For a list of supported hardware that works with the madwifi driver see:

http://madwifi.org/wiki/Compatibility

and:
