Browsers Keep Crashing

i noticed lately that firefox kept crashing every minute or two. so i switched to opera to see if it was just firefox acting up. after a bit i noticed opera doing the same thing.

what could be the problem?

plz explain why and how i can fix the problem and not just "it could be this or that" and never giving any how to or possible commands to use.

Well, that's a tall order, especially with so little info to go on. I'd have to be a psychic.

Anyway, I would try several things and see what the output is.

1) First, has it always been crashing, ever since you installed Slackware ? Or just recently ? If recently, what was the last thing you installed or did that had to do with browsers. (maybe installed plug-ins or something) What was the last thing you installed ? It may even not be browser-related.
2) Run both 'firefox' and 'opera' in a terminal, and post what the output is. It should give some error upon crashing.

Hmmm, ok. So what version of Slackware are you using ?

Have these programs been crashing ever since you installed Slackware ? Or just recently ? what other things have you installed recently, these don't necessarily have to do with the browsers.

EDIT: Considering your last post. If you have not done anything recently, like upgrading a critical package or something ... I'm beginning to suspect perhaps a hardware issue. When apps randomly segfault it may be a bad RAM stick or maybe even a HDD. Try running memtest86+ and maybe some other HDD diagnostic tools.

Found this recently, it is very useful:

Overheating could also cause this kind of problem. Check to see if a fan died, or there's too much dust in the CPU heatsink (that happened to me - mine turned out to be totally clogged after 2 years of operation), or if the power supply is getting a bit warm - again, possibly due to excessive dust inside.

True, that could be the cause too. That happened to my GPU ... once I cleaned the dust off the fan, it stopped crashing.
