So I've got a Windows 11 machine which does not support my MFC-7420 printer/scanner. I also am running slackware 14.2 in a VirtualBox machine on this computer. I have installed multilib and followed the instructions at http://docs.slackware.com/howtos:har...r_installation. lsusb shows the printer but cups does not find it. Any ideas how to fix?
when i install my brother printer, i have to use the gui to get cups to install it. https://youripaddress:631 or something is the address you put into your browser after you get the printer drivers installed and set-up. then you have to add the printer to cups and you should be good to go.
Thanks for the reply. I do go to the gui admin page but it does not seem to find my printer. I'm trying the same thing with a network brother printer and that one fails to show up as well.
Is your virtual machine network adapter configured as NAT or bridged? If NAT I would switch it to bridged.
I am not all that familiar with cups and slackware so I need some help from the experts. What is the model of your Brother network printer and do you know if it is a PCL compatible printer? If so you can use a generic Gutenprint/foomatic HP PCL5 printer driver. I recommend configuring the printer with a static IP address. The cups printer url will be:
Download the driver from https://support.brother.com/g/b/down...od=mfc7420_all and run the shell script as root and provide the IP address of the printer when prompted. The same URL may have a separate driver or shell script for scanner.
Thanks all for the replies. I ended up installing current (the day before 15.0 was officially released and the problem went away so I can't really post a solution.
