Boot stops ...

Hello everyone,

I have my system running well now. That is boot menu, slackware, winblow98.. and now I want to start tuning. I found information about edititing my xf86config for dual screen. So I wanted to do that and this is what I did:

Turned of power and inserted a pci NVIDIA gforce 200 32mb (my primary adaptor is AGP NVIDIA riva TNT2 32mb). Booted up into windows first and everything works. When I boot into Slackware the system stop the boot. I can't say exactly where for it jumps back to the start and then the screen freezes. Starting again it will force a check on the mounts (for they aren't unmounted properly) and the after that it nearly immeditatly goes back to the top and freezes. Why does this happen? When I first installed slackware it was no problem (but then I had the card inserted before starting the installation) so it does work.

My question: what do I have to change? I'm using the standard bare.i boot image from slack current. I am certain these work for me as mentioned before.

I had a similar problem with bare.i and a two card ATI 128 / Voodoo3 combo, but in that case bare.i just didn't boot at all. I never bothered to sort out why as the 2.4.19 kernel I had booted fine (more or less, not with framebuffering, so I was booting to a blank screen), and if its getting to fsck then its hanging with something in init, not in the kernel boot, so what line specifically is the last to get displayed?

Cheers,

Finegan

This is wierd. I reinsalled my system after a small problem (my mistake) but first inserted the second video adapter now it doesn't give any problems. I still have to tune it in the xf86config but I have some examples for it. I even have my little penguin in to duringboot which I didn't have at fisrt. That was a mistake in LILO where I had a different vga value.
