bad slack ????

i have been having problems installing my copy of slack9. i have
downloaded about 3 copies from different sites/mirrors and all
give the same error. when installing the gnome and kde
packages output display says that there is an "input/output
error". i figure no prob after a bit of reading at
www.slackware.com i figure out that slack has it own packaging
system. i just figure that i will go thru the cd and install all of the
apps by hand. all of the apps under gnome and kde are listed
as corrupted. they won't install.
i know that this is kinda vague but it has made this install a bit
difficult(not that i am not enjoying the fact that i am almost
making an lfs). the only WM i had to work with was TWM (total
excitement there) and the only browser i had was links and lynx.
not to say that those are bad browsers but i like a bit of
eyecandy once in a while. so i now have pheonix and fluxbox
installed when i try one of my styles. bsetbg doesn't work. i
open it and it is looking to use qiv for the imaging app. i look for
it.... no can do. then i go thru the series of alternatives listed
there.....none.
i am thinking of sending a bug report to slack but i want to know
if i am just having bad luck with the burns (which i have made 4
coasters and one cd-rw with a corrupted slack9). i know that
there is some log that lets me know how the install goes, but
for the life of me i can't remember what it is. (i haven't tried
re-installing linux since i put in MKD9 and just kept on using it
since it worked fine for about 8 months) can some one let me
know if they have had the same problem or if there is a solution.
or even share your experience. lol

btw i have read thru the forum and have found others that have had this prob but not a reason or fix to the cd.

After you download and burn the image to a CD and boot it. Mount the CD and run the program md5sum to verify the contents of the CD.

boot the CD
login as root then

mount /dev/hdx /cdrom use the proper device for your CD drive
cd /cdrom/slackware
md5sum --check CHECKSUMS.MD5 | less

It should report errors on the "kdei" and "k" trees as these are removed to get it to fit in a single cd image. Any other errors are a bad image/burn/CD etc. Do not use it. The image does require a 700 MByte CD, a 650 MByte will not hold the image.

This should help you to at least verify you have a good install set to load from.

Are you sure the CDROM isn't bad? Or your memory? I've had problems like this before and my memory was bad, and the CDROM wasn't much better... hehe
