Audacity Init audio i/o error Slack 10

I checked the saoftware forums and did not find answer so I decided to post here.
Running slack 10.
All sound systems seem to be working fine.
Just installed wx-gtk and audacity, I get error on start of audacity.
error initializing audio i/o layer, You will not be able to play or record, error Host error
Basically audacity is not finding the sound device.
What can I do?

audacity audio i/o error solved!

Problem solved!
I always look for the simple stuff before going to extreems.
I set the sound system hardware to no audio i/o device, in the kde control center.
This shut off all the bells and whistles, but when I run audacity from a shell it works great.
