Audacious alternative

Hi there,

since I compiled my own audacious and it's plugins to get AAC+ radio streams running I get an "segmentation fault" every time I start audacious. When I delete ~/.config/audacious it runs until I close it. Then I have to delete audacious' config folder.

I don't like it, but all I found on the Internet was "After I upgraded to 8.10 (Ubuntu) it works again".. That sucks that no one knows the answer to this problem and it seems no one is interested in...

However, I need a (temporary) replacement for Audacious. Before I used Slackware, I used Archlinux + Xfce and my media player was Rhythmbox, but there's no SlackBuild and I don't really want it's GNOME dependencies.

Currently I run xmms but it's not really satisfying because I it has no plugin to minimize it to the tray. Do you know any non-KDE and non-GNOME dependent media player that provides a playlist that is saved when I close (VLC has a playlist but it doesn't save it...) and is able to be minimized to the tray?

Thanks

Clementine has a trayicon and the ability to minimize to it.
http://www.clementine-player.org/
There are no KDE- or Gnome-dependencies.

You might also suggest deadbeef,
http://deadbeef.sourceforge.net/
which features many plugins.

As a third option you could take a look at gogglesmm.
http://code.google.com/p/gogglesmm/
Though I don't know if gogglesmm has minimize to tray.

For all three players are slackbuildscripts available.
Due to the best crossfadeimplementation I prefer clementine.

Aqualung

This slackbuild works for slackware64 13.1. I've built it successfully using the tarball source version R-1142. Plays everything thrown at it, although APE files are buggy.

I use 'Music on command' for my music needs. Amarok (from within XFCE) takes care of my Ipod. I might check out that Clementine one though, that looks nice.

Thanks for your answers. I think I'll find one of them suitable for me.

@marrowsuck
obviously googlesmm has a tray -> http://code.google.com/p/gogglesmm/#Screenshot

@linusx64
thanks for the info, but I'm running 32bit.

@D1ver
I did like the first version of amaroK, but I handle the current amarok so I first switched to rhythmbox and then to audacious.

If you liked amarok, then you should give clementine a try.
It's an amarok-1.4-port.

Ah, thanks. I already compiled it, but I seems that I need to install gstreamer bad or ugly.^^ In a few seconds I'll know. I like Clementine's interface.

edit: Yep, now it works. Thank you!

If you don't want or need the whole last.fm thing, you can build Clementine with this =]

Theres another winamp/xmms clone qmmp. It has nice multi playlist mode, probably not to be activated by default, though.

If you want to try out quickly, install a qmmp package from http://slackware.com/~alien/slackbuilds/qmmp/

another route you could take is mpd + sonata or some similar client. You don't even need X at all to run it, so it is definitely KDE/GNOME independent.

I like Sonata (and I'm using it) but absence of queue of any kind is really annoying. I'm thinking of switching to something else. Clementine perhaps...
