OK, you've got a Radeon 9000 Pro.

Need some more info from you before help can be given:
1. What version of XORG are you running? (are you at Slack 10 or Slack-current?)
2. Are you running Dropline Gnome?
3. What version of ATI driver are you running? (Currently at 3.14.6, posted 11/09/2004)
4. Have you run FGLRXCONFIG? (and then renamed it from "XF86Config-4" to "Xorg.conf", in the /etc folder?)

Looking through your xorg.conf file, I noticed you've got TWO [section "device"] areas in your [Graphics device section].... Maybe they are stepping on each other.... One uses radeon driver, other using fglrx.

I'll check when I get in front of my linux box tonight.

Hey, I also had one heckuva time getting accelleration to work on my radeon 9600, using a custom kernel.

If you're interested in running the FGLRX script, do this: (it works all the time, every time for me. you can always roll back if you want)

1. Log on as root, at a command line.
2. # cd /etc/X11
3. # cp xorg.conf xorg.bak (this makes a backup of xorg.conf, just in case)
4. # fglrxconfig (This runs the ATI setup script)
5. Set you resolutions, etc...
6. Let it save as XF86Config-4
7. # cp XF86Config-4 xorg.conf
8. # startx
9. open a terminal window
10. # glxinfo (and hopefully, it says "Direct Rendering: Yes"

11. if that does not work, get out of X, go back to /etc/X11
12. # cp xorg.bak xorg.conf (Changes you back to your original configuration.

If it is, I seem to remember that you need to insert a setting into xorg.conf stating such. Hrm....

Using 2.6.9 here, but I get the error above, where there is a n error inserting the module, no such
device (it was metnioned above i think, but i did this in the console, so no copy and paste)

I think it's a build problem, but i'm not sure how, i have AGPGART build into the kernel, same with my chipsets AGP driver (ati IGP 320)
on a presario laptop (2111ea), with a radeon Mobility U1.

Any ideas if i've got kernel problems? (trying another rebuild as i speak). I wish laptop graphics were changable (i'd be using Nvidia in a second).

Does anyoen know how good this driver is with dual head? (i have an optuional port at the back for another monitor, and a psare monitor when i'm home)

well...some of those errors sound familiar to me.
first of all i have the agp-support compiled as modules, it wouldn't work compiled in the kernel ( don't know why )

second: what i did was:
-bootup into X
-build the fglrx-module
-changed xorg.conf ( to use fglrx )
-logout of X
-startx ( and here things went wrong because the fglrx-mod. could not be loaded )

solution:
-logout of X
-remove the " radeon " -driver ( #rmmod radeon )
-startx

and accleration worked ( well, for about 3 min's; then graphics froze due to overheating of the graph-chip; i need a cooler ).

i know from searches i have done that there shold be NO errors during compilation, if i try make_install anyway the modules does not
insert correctlym giving errors

Running slack 10m 2.6.9 kernel, udev, gcc 3.34

can anyone help me? if i could even get the driver to work it would be a start (these are the latest drivers as of last time i checked, the ones that dont
work with xorg 6.8 (which i use,d but i'll roll back when/if the driver compiles

i wishi iddin't have built in laptop graphics, so i could switch to nvidia

The following is my experience... YMMV.

1. DON'T use kernel 2.6.9. been nothing but bad mojo for me. 2.6.8.1 has been solid as a rock. Roll-it-back
2. Roll back to xorg 6.7. You say you're on xorg6.8
3. install POSIX shared memory, (simple FSTAB edit) instructions HERE: http://ati.com/support/infobase/4687.html
4. re-install fglrx according to various guides here on LQorg. (I think SOVIETPOWER's is best, DON'T install patches mentioned)
5. reboot system.
6. while system is rebooting, cross fingers, pray to your god(s), sacrafice small furry animals to ensure a good system boot.
7. startx, terminal, glxinfo.... *should* be good to go.

it's a BUILD issue, the kernel wouldn't make a difference

posix threads installed alreadys, and how do i rollback Xorg, i made from source, not from a slack update.

if i could get the damn module to make then i might have some success at getting it to work...but no luck yet so far....when's the next driver mean't to be relased?

(btw i was using this tutorial before, didn't patch the driver as it was said it wasn't needed)

@ -O-: in your prev. post i don't see any compile-errors ? i think you just gotto follow
the further instructions to install it.
if you get errors on inserting the module : that's probably because your " radeon " -module is still loaded
( logout of X; " rmmod radeon" ; " modprobe fglrx "------> to check if it can be loaded )

to go back to xorg-6.7 you could try to use " checkinstall " first to reinstall 6.8.1 . this will also make
a file-list in /var/log/packages. after that you can remove it with pkgtool. ( i didn't try it...)

i myself did just install xorg-6.7 over the newer one, and well, it works but there were some strange things
as i had to reboot a few times before x would start and i don't trust it all ( waiting for Slack 10.1 )

Hello everybody. I'm using a fresh Slack 10 install with a radeon 9550. Kernel 2.4.26, Xorg 6.7. I downloaded the latest driver, installed it without trouble, built the module, etc, etc. Everything appeared to be working. The fglrx module is loaded, glxinfo shows that direct rendering is enabled. Glxgears gets about 900 fps windowed and <100 fullscreen. So I tried to run fgl_glxgears and I get a TON of errors. Here's a small sample:

Has anyone else encountered similar errors, and does anyone know of a fix for this problem?

That will take care of those errors you're getting w/ fgl_glxgears, and make regular glxgears much faster (2000-3000fps)
