ATI Radeon driver 8.29.6 hangs with mobility 9600pro ?

Hi to all !

I have got a Slackware 11.0 kernel 2.6.18, notebook Asus Z8000 series
with Ati Radeon Mobility 9600Pro.

I installed the fglrx driver by "ati-driver-installer-8.29.6"
and I tested the 3d acceleration with success.

But when I quit from Xwindows (WindowMaker), my linux box hangs on
showing me strange colors on the screen.

Is it a bug ? Any idea ?

It could the same bug of mine.

I will try a older driver version,
or I'll wait for the new one.

OK, ATI driver 8.29.6 is buggy for some video cards.
Then I tried to install dirver 8.28.8, but the installation
process fails with my kernel version 2.6.18...

Did anyone install ATI driver 8.28.8 with kernel 2.6.18 ? :|

Did anyone installed successfully the native Mesa driver r300
with kernel 2.6.x ? :|

I tried last ATI driver release 8.30, but Xorg 6.9 still hangs when
exiting from X to come back to a text console :-(

Any idea ?

Did anyone installed Xorg 7.1 with Mesa ati driver support ?

In the slackware installation cd in extra/x11-radeon-patched they included some modules that are supposedly useful if X tends to hang. In the package description it says that they are especially helpful for those with ATI radeon mobility cards.

try that and see if it works

Already tried that patch, but X still hangs :-(
