ATI driver, fglrx - FATAL: Error inserting fglrx

Hi,

Just downloaded and installed the latest driver from ATI's website.

Please note: I have not run "aticonfig --initial" yet.

At the end of installation, installer said there are errors - check the /usr/share/ati/fglrx-install.log

The fglrx-install.log asked:

Quote:
You must change your working directory to /lib/modules/fglrx
and then call ./make_install.sh in order to install the built module
- recreating module dependency list
- trying a sample load of the kernel modules
failed.
[Error] Kernel Module : Failed to install compiled kernel module - please consult readme.
So, running ./make_install.sh gave me the following message:

[QUOTE]
- recreating module dependency list
- trying a sample load of the kernel modules failed
FATAL: Error inserting fglrx (/lib/modules/2.6.24.5/kernel/drivers/char/drm/fglrx.ko): Operation not permitted [QUOTE]

Also, running "lsmod|grep radeon" gave me nothing.
Look like radeon module is not loaded.

Any ideas?

Installed drivers as root.

kernel-modules-smp-2.6.24.5_smp-i686-2.tgz are installed, but kernel-modules-2.6.24.5-i486-2.tgz are not.

Should I install the standard kernel-modules package as well?

You may run ./make_install.sh as root as well.
