I've tried the ath5k driver in 2.6.27, the stock slackware kernel but that didn't work. Madwifi did not work, subversion-checkout nor stable. Turns out that Fedora 10 detects my card and loads the right driver. How does this happen? After much googling and cmdlining(?) I came to the conclusion that fedora has patched their kernel with a newer driver. So I
go to kernel.org and get the latest 2.6.28 kernel, compile it with the standard config-generic-smp-2.6.27.7-smp config in slackware(make silentoldconfig and so on...)
I now have a working wireless network card, thank $deity!
Everything is working perfectly so far. Since it took me almost two days to get it working, I thought I'd post my solution here. Maybe someone will find this info useful.
