alsa not working after i edited my /etc/inittab


i was reading this part in slackbook and was going to try to change my run level to 1 (single user mode) i edited /etc/inittab, and changed

rebooted and when i started x my mouse did not work or my keyboard + (i still had to log in),so when i switched it back i tryed watching a video on youtube with firefox and it had no sound and just locked up.

when i run speaker-test at the command line
it barfs up

Why are you trying to run your system in single user mode? That is usually reserved for troubleshooting. Most system services are not run in single user mode, and specifically, /etc/rc.d/rc.alsa is only run from /etc/rc.d/rc.M (which is only run in multiuser modes).

was just trying it out trying to learn etc. i switched it back to Multiuser mode but now alsa is giving me that error

Have you rebooted since? Usually `telinit 3` in the terminal as root should restore the system to a normal multiuser runlevel 3. What is the output of `who -r`? You may wish to (re)run `alsaconf` as root and make sure everything in /etc/modprobe.d/sound (or sound.conf?) looks OK. Otherwise, the output of `lspci -vv`, `lsmod` and `aplay -l` would be handy.

Check the mixer. The volume may be set to mute.

i checked alsamixer and turned every thing up then ran

and i still get that alsa error
