A Sound Problem (Slackware 13.0)

I plugged in a DVD (happened to be Stand By Me) and it started playing with only the music soundtrack; no dialog. Hmm. I looked at the KDE volume control and it's telling me that mixer channel is PCM -- this is logged in as a user (all users). OK, let's see what logging in as root does. Log in as root, plug in DVD, start playing, dialog, music, sound effects, all the stuff. KDE volume control and the mixer tells me Master.

Now what, methinks, yet another new "feature?" And, of course, there isn't a blasted thing in the documentation telling me who, what, where, why, when or how.

When I configured this thing I ran alsaconf, KDE plays its little tune at log in and out for everybody, MPlayer plays MP3s, WMVs, MPEGs, CDs. No joy with DVDs?

Did I miss something somewhere?

Right click on the kmix icon in the tray and pick select master channel.

Oh, duh. Sometimes you forget about the simple and try to solve the complex.

Thanks.
