404 error Accessing citicards.com using firefox as of late?
Until recently I used firefox 2.0.0.4 or the one that installed with Slackware12 and was able to access citicards.com without any problems. This month when I tried to access the same website I got the following error: Error 404: No target servlet configured for uri: /cards/wv/home.do
I contacted the bank and was told the error must be on my end, isp related. I upgraded firefox to ver 2.0.0.14 in slackware12 and 2.0.0.14 in XP box. While I was able to access the site using XP and did so reluctantly, I am unable to access the site from Slackware12.
Any suggestions? I don't feel secure accessing banks from XP box and don't usually go online with it either. Thanks
- I've got the same error with Opera 9.27 on Slackware 12.0;
- Firefox 2.0.0.14 loads the page and then shows a blank page;
- Konqueror freezes;
- links & lynx shows the same error "Error 404: No target servlet configured....".
It's not a Firefox problem; it's a problem on their (citicards) side.
The problem with the site is their silly flash intro where they show you to click on something ("Find the perfect card"). If you right click on your "blank page" that you see you will notice that flash is running. Click on "Play" and then the little "Find the perfect card" movie will play at which point you can click the big 'X' to close it. Now the site is accessible as it should be.
So, in summary, the problem is not with firefox per se, but the firefox flash plugin for Linux.
Sorry I did not return to view responses till now. I had been using XP Firefox for citi.
Thanks shadowsnipes, at one point I was able to access citicard log-in using your method but then citicard changed its website again.
I upgraded to Firefox 2.0.0.14 for slackware12 without any problems but it did not resolve the issue.
Today I read "One solution for logging into Citibank by tferero in Linux-Newbie forum...
"installing the firefox plugin that disables flash. This worked great for me. The plugin link is: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/433" So far it is working well for me too in Xfce desktop

I don't think citicard changed its website. I just checked it a minute ago and it works the same for me as before. I always go to www.citicard.com which redirects me to https://www.citicards.com/cards/wv/home.do where the bad flash movie shows a blank page. Perhaps you went to a slightly different URL last time. I wouldn't surprised if there was a better URL to go to for logging on (one that bypasses the flash movie), but I haven't tried looking for one. Maybe you need to reload the page without the cache as well (CTRL+R).
At any rate, I wouldn't expect it to work any better for FF 2.0.0.14. I'm using 3.0rc1 right now, and it still works the same on that site. As I said previously, I don't think it is a Firefox problem, but a problem with the Firefox flash plugin. With FF 3.0 you can easily disable your plugins as well. I encourage you to check it out for that and many other new features.
