2 identical encore 8139 on slack 10.2+ k 2.6 don't working
Hi all, I am newbie in slack, not in linux world, I have a 2 encore 8139 ethernets in my slack box (10.2), and I did a instalation with the test2.6.s kernel, I did a new dependencies for the kernel and it's working fine, but with 1 nic, if I put these 2 pci nics, the fisrt one stop working, in the /var/log/dmesg i have inmediatly after a linking the driver with a device (eth0) a "link down" message is logged, after that perform a second link and actually this is the only device that works (eth1) but if I take it off my second ethenet (wich it works)the fisrt one (eth0) start to work, so, the questions is: is there a way to tell the kernel "you have two identical ethernets?" (in a driver load level, because I have defined my 2 ip's in the rc.inet1.conf) I tried to put in /etc/modules.conf 2 alias:
alias etho 8139too
alias eth1 8139too
but it didn't work
any help would be apreciate
/tks all of you for the reading & sorry about my poor english

etho isn't eth0. Besides which, what are you trying to do? When both cards are inserted in the system, is only one detected and shows up in the output of "ifconfig"? Or are you trying to do some weird network connections?
you are right, etho isn't eth0, it was a typo, eth0 I meant,
and yes, both cards appear with ifconfig with their own ips each one, but only the last one it works actually, if i interchange the order in the pci solts still the last one it works only (I am shure because i saw the mac address and ip with ifconfig), lspci list them both, still if I interchanged ones (in different order of course) can't be a IRQ shared problem because the fisrt one is IRQ 10 and the other one is IRQ 11
Cherife:
I will tonight, (because that box is in my home) & I'll post what happened
Problem solved, it was a missing default gateway in my inet1.conf, but i don't get it, why slack need a GW to configure properly 2 nics?, if broadcast says it on your network, you don't need a GW, in other distros this not happend
