13.37 64 multilib occasionally freezes on boot

I'm running a generic kernel with Slackware64 13.37 multilib. Every now and then it freezes at the boot time. It probably happens 1 every 5-7 times, so it's not a big problem, but it indicates that something is not right. Please see the screenshot.

Thanks

Run memtest.

Yes, it's always as depicted in the attachment. It never reaches CPU #8.

I'll leave the memtest running overnight.

It may not be the RAM if it always hangs in the same place.

Does anything happen if you press any keys on the keyboard ?

Check for BIOS updates that have something to do with APIC.

It might have to do with APIC, at least from what I've seen on the net. You could try updating the BIOS if there is now one that fixes something about APIC. Or you could try to disable APIC with boot options like 'noioapic', 'nolapic', 'noapic' and similar ones. Try just one at a time.

Thanks. I'll try all the suggestions. As it doesn't happen that often, it'll take time to identify the culprit.

Well it does reach 8 remember cpu #7 is your 8th core, IE if say I have 24 cpu system my first cpu will be number #0 and my 24th cpu will be number #23. I have a 6 core system here is my info for reference

Code:
Booting Node 0, Processors #1
Switch to broadcast mode on CPU1
 #2
Switch to broadcast mode on CPU2
 #3
Switch to broadcast mode on CPU3
 #4
Switch to broadcast mode on CPU4
 #5 Ok.
Switch to broadcast mode on CPU5
Brought up 6 CPUs
Total of 6 processors activated (33752.36 BogoMIPS).

Ok, just a quick update. I've checked the memory and it looks fine. I haven't done anything else simply because I haven't encountered any problems. I've rebooted it many times over the last week just to test it. Automagically it doesn't freeze any longer. I'll look into the bios update and the acpi stuff if/the moment it freezes again.

Provisionally I'll mark this thread as solved. I bet that next time I reboot the computer it'll freeze
