colorpurple21859: it would be really helpful to see a grub.conf, including the boot entries that work with a standalone boot partition, and allow to boot luks.

I use Ubuntu grub as the main bootloader and this is the grub menu that that works with the encrypted lvm
Code:
menuentry 'Fedora 30 (Workstation Edition) (on /dev/mapper/fedora_localhost--live-root)' --class gnu-linux --class gnu --class os $menuentry_id_option 'osprober-gnulinux-/vmlinuz-5.0.9-301.fc30.x86_64--b9ba58bc-5e1a-4625-95a2-522fe87af04d' {
		savedefault
		insmod part_gpt
		insmod ext2
		set root='hd0,gpt5'
		if [ x$feature_platform_search_hint = xy ]; then
		  search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set=root --hint-bios=hd0,gpt5 --hint-efi=hd0,gpt5 --hint-baremetal=ahci0,gpt5  a9b0fc35-9193-42ba-b347-d0be56f04942
		else
		  search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set=root a9b0fc35-9193-42ba-b347-d0be56f04942
		fi
		linux /vmlinuz-5.0.9-301.fc30.x86_64 root=/dev/dm-5
		initrd /initramfs-5.0.9-301.fc30.x86_64.img
}
If the test8.iso was able to detect the boot partition I think it would load the encrypted lvm partition.

The search function isn't finding stand alone boot partitions because it looks for /boot/<boot files> and not /<boot files> which is what is found on a boot partition.
