FC2, mozila 1.7.3: a related collection of failures

I recently updated mozilla (via up2date) to version 1.7.3.

I found that after this mozilla does not work right. The following failures occur, but I cannot figure out what they have in common:

1) left clicking on a link FAILS, no response at all
2) center clicking on a link SUCCEEDS, web page is rendered in new tab.
3) right clicking on link, selecting "open in new window", FAILS a blank window is shown.
4) typing a URL and pressing carriage return FAILS, no web page is loaded.
5) pressing a button in the tool bar to load a web page (i.e. Home page) SUCCEEDS.
6) Compose an email message FAILS with a dialog box stating "An error occurred while creating a message compose window. Please try again".
7) staring a copy of Mozilla for the "first time" FAILS. If I create a new user account (with no ~/.mozilla directory) and launch mozilla then the process simply uses 99% CPU indefinently.

Anyone know what is wrong ????

thanks,

thromb,

Yep, just wanted to say, that I have the same problems.
One thing to add:
The Bookmarks are not viewed properly at startup. They are viewed in the menu only after doing a "manage Bookmarks". But they do not work at all when selected.
Going back to the 1.7.2 packages everything works fine again.

Ah, good, I'm not going crazy. I updated to 1.7.3 on the 25th, and my Mozilla started acting similarly. I looked all over to try to find confirmation of this glitch but didn't find one till this thread! So, not to just be saying, 'Me too,' I'll share what info I have. My symptoms are somewhat different:
1) Same - no left clicking. Additionally, no form submissions.
2) Different - No, actually, can't get center clicking to open a link
3) Different - I succeed with open new window, though images don't load...
4) Different - I can get urls to load
5) True
6) True
7) Also true. Hmm, I guess I need to go kill some mozillas. (Got a biplane? Nevermind, it's dead now...)

It's wierd that I don't have the exact same symptoms, but it does seem similar enough to me to be the same issue. Unfortunately I think I'm in the midst of a newbie (me) caused crisis. I think I might have accidentally pointed my YUM/Up2Date mirror to a development mirror. But I didn't get hordes of new packages and can't find the modified config file. (neither /etc/sysconfig/rhn/sources, nor /etc/yum.conf were changed.) What mirror are you guys using?

I have the logs, I'm thinking of rolling back to 1.6.8 as is in most of the mirrors these days... Any easy way to do this?

My solution was simply to go to mozilla.org and download the latest tar ball (at that time v1.8) apparently it doesn't have the same problems.

OTOH, you could get firefox 1.0 from the same site. I have done this and found it works great ... don't forget to install various plugins.

Thromb,
